The Gift of Quiet: How Hiding Away with Music Can Restore Your Spirit

In a world that never stops, it's okay—and often necessary—to press pause, step back, and spend time hidden from the hum of daily life. Being quiet isn’t “doing nothing” ... it's giving yourself space to breathe, feel, and come home to yourself.

Why Solitude Matters

We are all woven from relationships and noise—family needs, work demands, social expectations. That rhythm can be beautiful but also exhausting. The need to hide away, even briefly, is not avoidance: it's self-care.

Studies show that carving out as little as 15 minutes of quiet alone can reduce stress, increase creativity, and deepen self-awarenessMediumOura Ring. For me, these moments of solitude are not a luxury—they’re essential.

A Personal Story from My Quiet Space

As a sound therapist, I work with groups and clients regularly. Yet lately, I’ve found myself tucked behind closed doors—immersed in family life, focused on the small, silent moments. As much as I love teaching and sharing sound, I’ve also learned I need to withdraw sometimes, to refill my own cup.

In those sacred moments, I reach for music—something simple, supportive, grounding. I play a soft humming tone, a favourite track, or even just my voice in gentle vocal toning. It reminds me: being hidden doesn’t mean being lost. It’s being held.

The Healing Power of 174 Hz Frequency

One of the frequencies I’ve found especially nurturing in these quiet spaces is 174 Hz. Known as the lowest Solfeggio tone, this frequency:

  • Eases pain and soothes physical tension

  • Calms stress, nurturing a sense of safety

  • Improves concentration and grounding

A small 5–10 minute session of listening to or humming this tone can help settle both body and mind into a place of rest.

Try This Today (Even Behind Closed Doors)

  1. Find a quiet space—your bathroom, bedroom corner, even your car during the school run.

  2. Play or hum along to a 174 Hz track.

  3. Breathe deeply. Close your eyes.

  4. Focus on the vibration moving through your chest or belly.

  5. Continue for 5 minutes. Notice how your shoulders drop, your thoughts soften.

Why It Matters for Busy Parents and Practitioners

If you’re juggling family life, work, or caregiving, this is for you. It’s not about escaping; it’s about grounding. Music offers a compassionate companion in those hidden, quiet spaces. It speaks when we have no words, holds us when we’re tired, and reminds us we’re never truly alone.

Every moment spent caring for yourself is a gift—for you and for the family who depends on you. A calmer, centred you is the greatest gift of all.

Come Together with Sound and Community

Solitude nurtures us—but we also thrive in belonging. If you’re ready to move beyond this “hidden” space and into shared healing, join one of my in-person events: sound baths, vocal toning workshops, and mediation circles. Let’s hold space for one another.
